General
For safety purposes, all filling stations and reloading points are legally required to be equipped with concrete collecting trays. Stations and sites at which substances hazardous to water are reloaded are furthermore subject to the water protection regulations of the Water Resources Act, according to which substances of this kind must be treated and handled in such a way as to prevent them from contaminating groundwater.
B+F’s collecting trays are designed in such a way that transport vehicles can either drive directly onto them or drive onto them after covering them with a metal grate. They are suitable for all load conditions. Depending on their intended use, B+F collecting systems can also be adapted to comply with the Water Act regulations. B+F collecting trays are also manufactured in accordance with the “Deutscher Ausschuss für Stahlbeton” (DAfStb) (German Committee for Reinforced Concrete), “Richtlinie für Betonbau beim Umgang mit wassergefährdenden Stoffen” (Guidelines for concrete structures used in connection with substances hazardous to water) and in accordance with the particular substance(s) stored or reloaded. This Guideline details the structural requirements for concrete structures built in accordance with DIN 1045 and EN 206-1 that have an open top and are used in connection with particular liquid, pasty or solid substances hazardous to water, in order to ensure compliance with the water protection regulations.
The use of specific concrete mixtures and construction methods guarantees that B+F collecting systems are impermeable to the relevant substances used for a specific period of time and thus prevent the ground and water underneath the trays from becoming contaminated. B+F collecting trays can also be coated using special coatings that are approved under the German Building Regulations (mark of conformity by the “Institut für Bautechnik” (German Institute for Building Technology)).
The drain pipes used in the collecting trays are designed in accordance with the substances they are required to collect. Water authorities may request test reports on penetration behaviour of the collecting tray materials with respect to the substances being refilled or reloaded in order to speed up the water authority approval processes.
B+F HGV collecting trays generally have standard external dimensions of 8.00 / 4.00 metres, but can also be built to a range of other dimensional specifications upon request. B+F’s various collecting trays distinguish themselves from one another primarily with respect to the way the slabs are arranged and the location of the drain channel, which can be positioned at the front, along the side or the centre of the collecting tray. When using a combination of different slabs within one collecting tray system, the joints and the drain channel’s gradient are adapted to the conditions prevalent on site.
